Why We Created the Wall-Mounted Ambient Audio System

A note from Noah and the TRETTITRE team.

Music has never been easier to access. A song can appear in seconds, playlists can run forever, and new tools can create sounds almost instantly. That convenience is remarkable, and we use it too. But as listening became faster, we began to miss something: the anticipation, attention, and physical connection that once made music feel like an event.

That feeling became the starting point for the TRETTITRE Wall-Mounted Ambient Audio System.

When everything became instant

Today, speed shapes almost every part of culture. Streaming gives us nearly any recording on demand. Artificial intelligence can generate musical ideas in moments. These tools open new possibilities, but convenience can also turn listening into background noise.

We did not want to reject modern technology. We wanted to create a reason to pause—to choose an album, interact with an object, and give music our full attention again.

The joy of something physical

Members of our team grew up through the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, when discovering music required more effort. You searched through record stores, saved for an album, brought it home, studied the artwork, and finally pressed play. The waiting was not separate from the experience; it was part of what made the music meaningful.

I still have my original Game Boy DMG-01. I remember the excitement of connecting it to another player's console with a link cable and battling in Pokémon. It was a simple, physical interaction, but it created a lasting memory. Opening a CD player, watching the disc begin to spin, and putting on a pair of headphones can carry that same tangible sense of anticipation.

Digital services give us access. Physical objects give the moment a shape.

Record digging shaped how I listen

When I was younger, I worked as a hip-hop music producer. Making beats was rewarding, but one of my favorite parts was digging: spending hours in record shops looking for the one sound or sample that could unlock a new idea.

The process was slow and sometimes unpredictable. That was precisely why it mattered. A discovery felt personal because it required curiosity, patience, and attention. You built a relationship not only with the final track, but also with everything that led you to it.

Modern tools can accelerate that process, and there is real value in them. Still, we believe there should also be room for exploration that takes time—for listening that feels deliberate rather than automatic.

Designing a slower listening ritual

The Wall-Mounted Ambient Audio System was created around that belief. We wanted physical music to become visible again: not hidden inside a cabinet or reduced to a file name, but present in the room as part of the atmosphere.

Its wall-mounted form turns listening equipment into part of the interior. The system brings the character of physical media together with the convenience expected from contemporary audio products. It is designed for people who appreciate the ritual of choosing what to play, while still wanting a system that belongs naturally in a modern home.

For us, retro design is not about copying the past. It is about remembering what the past did well—tactility, patience, personality—and carrying those qualities forward.

A place for intentional listening

We are not against streaming, AI, or faster ways of creating. They all have a place. We simply believe that music deserves more than one mode of attention.

Sometimes the best experience is immediate. At other times, it is choosing a disc, watching it spin, and letting an album unfold without skipping ahead. The Wall-Mounted Ambient Audio System is our invitation to make space for that second kind of listening: slower, richer, and more personal.

If this idea resonates with you, thank you. It means there are still people who believe that slowing down can make music feel new again.
